I've been feeling kind of sad these days-- not because of finals (because this past week has surprisingly the most relaxing week this whole semester), but because I just FEEL the hopelessness, anxiety and depression in people that I come across. Yesterday, before I went to Biola to study, I went to McDonalds to pick up some coffee. While I was waiting in line to get some more cream, there was a family in front of me taking a ridiculously long time. It was a family of three: a father, an older daughter (I'm guessing around 16), and a son (~7). While waiting, I overheard the conversation and realized that they were talking about job applications. On their way out, the son asked his dad, "Daddy, we're not getting food?...." To which the father replied, "Not today son.. not today." This wasn't Uganda. It wasn't South Central LA.. This was in suburbia.. now no longer a bubble from harsh reality. Hah.jk.

Even now as I type this at It's a Grind, the fellow next to me is browsing Fastweb for jobs. Skid row seems 10x more crowded than I remember, and my neighborhood at USC seems to have 3x more competition for can/bottle gathering (haha). I even saw a homeless sister in Irvine (Irvine!!!) taking advantage of the warm 24 hour study facilities on UCI campus. To imagine that we represent one of the wealthiest cities in the world...

I feel so helpless. I want to do something! I want to HELP. I want to hug everyone and beseech them to cling to Jesus. I want to give them food. Clothes. Make them laugh. Make them feel like princes and princesses that they are. HAHA. Who do I think I am.....

But here am I.
At It's a Grind.
Drinking my coffee.
Studying physics.
